PAUSE - REFLECT - REBALANCE
By David Lissah CMgr CMI, InstLM

There is nothing more rewarding than being in the service of others, and is one of the reasons for me spending my career in the environments I have, including FM and Building Services. However, as fulfilling as these may be, they also present their fair share of challenges.
The dynamic nature of FM and Building Services demands adaptability, problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate complex situations. From juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities to managing diverse teams and meeting ever-evolving client expectations, the challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming. They certainly were for me on many occasions.
So recognising the importance of self-care and maintaining equilibrium, managers and leaders in the FM and Building Services sector must embrace the practice of pausing, reflecting, and rebalancing.
Taking a moment to step back from the demanding pace of the industry allows for introspection, evaluation, and rejuvenation.
By regularly engaging in introspection, we can gain valuable insights into our own strengths and areas for improvement.
Reflection enables us to evaluate our strategies, identify potential obstacles, and devise innovative solutions. Moreover, it encourages a mindset of continuous learning, empowering individuals to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving industry.
Rebalancing is equally vital in the pursuit of sustainable success. It involves finding a harmonious equilibrium between professional and personal commitments, ensuring that one's energy and focus remain intact.
Taking the time to recharge, pursue hobbies, and nurture relationships not only enhances well-being but also cultivates a sense of fulfilment that permeates into professional endeavours.
